Students who wish to speed things along are free to move through the curriculum at a quicker pace. The curriculum is all online and can be accessed at anytime and anywhere to better meet the needs of the individual’s work schedule and personal time. There will be live webinars and in person lab experiences.
Access from anywhere in Utah
This program is for individuals living anywhere in the state. They will be required to attend 6 labs during the year at a location that might require some traveling, but most coursework is fully online.
Get individualized mentoring and training
The program is designed for students who are most successful with individualized help, encouragement, and monitoring. An instructor will be assigned to each student to assist, mentor, and monitor progress.
Academy Accepts Transfers
The Academy welcomes transfers from other apprenticeship programs. Though the Academy is on a 1-4 Level Curriculum, transcripts from other programs will document what level the student will transfer to.
New Offerings
- A new Residential & Commercial HVAC (Mechanical) Program will start in the first quarter of 2026.
- The Hydronics Program has started with the first class in the Spring of 2025 with an online course available. Further classes will be offered in the Fall of 2025.

UPHCA’s Apprentice Academy program offers convenience and flexibility to fit any lifestyle.
There will be live webinars and in-person lab experiences six times per year, which are required for all students. Some travel may be involved.

What is the UPHCA Academy?
The UPHCA Academy is a non-profit trade school created by the Utah Plumbing & Heating Contractors Association. It offers industry-led training in plumbing, hydronics and backflow, with HVAC coming soon.
Can I work while I train?
Yes. Apprentices get an industry-led education while earning a paycheck.
Is the UPHCA Academy approved?
Yes. The Academy is approved by DOPL, and its curriculum is approved through the Department of Labor apprenticeship program.
Is the program self-paced?
Yes. The program is online and self-paced, and the instructors also work with each apprentice as mentors.
