Yes, the apprentice needs to submit their transcripts from the program they are coming from to determine the level of program.

There is no accreditation for Apprenticeship Programs. The UPHCA Academy has been approved by DOPL and the curriculum has been approved through the Department of Labor-Apprenticeship Program.

All the instructors must be a journeyman with 4 years of experience. At this time all instructors have taught at the different technical colleges in Utah. Our instructors are also mentors. Because this program is self-paced, online program the instructors/mentors will work more on a individual basis to move the apprentice along and interface with the employer of the apprentice.

How many days/times out of the week will traveling be required for labs?

How many days/times out of the week will traveling be required for labs?

Each year/level of the program will have "Skills Expectations" where the apprentice will be required to pass them off. This might be coordinated with the employer mentor to pass these skills off or a physical lab. Depending upon the year/level and the list of expectations will determine the amount of labs required. It is anticipated that the 4th year will have 4-6 labs to prepare the apprentice for the state journeyman practical test. Again with the instructor/mentor each individual will be reviewed to determine skills and needs of the individual. Most of the practical experience is their work experience, however we realize some companies are more narrow in focus than others and this will also be taken into consideration when designing lab experiences with the student.

The UPHCA develop tests for 1st and 2nd year for all plumbing apprentices in Utah. Having the UPHCA Academy online and self-paced it will be up to the individual how quickly they will move through the curriculum.

All code books that are allowed into the journeyman written test (printed book) will be provided to the students including a text book for each year including online access to all these resources.
